On the surface, Elise is a shy, unassuming 23-year-old. Despite working for a successful wine company in London, her life is anything but lavish. In her efforts to save money for the deposit to buy a flat, she lurks by the reduced section in her supermarket and builds her wardrobe from the sale rail in charity shops. Her life suddenly takes a dramatic turn, which leads her to Paris and finds her weaving through previously unknown stories of the heroism of her family. As she slowly uncovers her history, she begins to discover and deals with her own issues which allow her to start her own personal journey towards self-worth and self-empowerment.

Sally Hawkins was born in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, and now lives in Surrey with her husband and four dogs.  She has two grown up children and works as a volunteer for an international dog rescue group, fostering, rehabilitating and rehoming abused and neglected dogs.
