I don't usually read many 'Fantasy' books (as it's not my favourite genre and they tend to run with the same paranormal theme) but I have to say after reading "Guardians or Demons" by R M Rose, I think I could be persuaded to read a lot more!
Although probably aimed at YA readers I truly believe adults would enjoy this book equally as much. I did! Very easy to read and follow, you find yourself turning the pages intrigued as to where the story is taking you.
I really liked 16 year old Samantha the main protagonist in the story, I felt very close to her and sensed her emotions and feelings during the book. It was enjoyable reading about her innocent naivety during the start of her new 'family' life and then overcoming so many obstacles. The tender love story that was running through the book was just endearing too and truly reflected a young teenager's thoughts and feelings. The initiation chapter was very descriptive and detailed - you just couldn't help but feel you were actually there - in fact the author has done a tremendous job generally in conveying her creative narrative to the reader in fabulous detail and with obvious emotion.
For a debut author this is a cracking book, and not short either running at over 400 pages long - you certainly get your money's worth!
On a final note this book is beautifully printed, with lovely artwork at the start of each chapter and an attractive photo cover. A lovely enjoyable read that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to young and old and I do hope to meet Samantha and the clans again in a second book!
A well deserved 4 stars!
