Born to drive, John worked for many years as a tanker driver. He's clocked up the equivalent miles by truck, car and motorbike to travel sixty times around the world. He is passionate about political, legal and economic injustices, environmental issues, travel, food, drink and good company. To this day, he resides with Christine in the rural areas of the tranquil nation, Bulgaria.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book - couldn't put it down until I'd finished it! There is a lot more to this book than just a story of a couple travelling across Europe to a new life away from the UK. John Mabbs is clearly a well-informed and knowledgeable author and has a real knack for writing - sometimes amusing, often with real passion on many subjects. He covers many World-issues, all of which undoubtedly contributed to his life-changing decision. I look forward to more books by this author!
A fantastic read and a very inspirational story, chapter 1 deals with the state of the modern world today and I agreed with virtually every word, it still proved a history lesson that runs throughout all chapters of the book which I really enjoyed also.
The subsequent story unfolding is an absolute joy and you feel part of the journey.
An excellent read overall and a superb guide to staying and traveling in Europe although that is not the book's intention.
Makes you give a lot of thought to the mundane country/society that we live in here in the UK, hats off to the author for having the balls to make the break!
Wow, this is a truly inspirational story. I loved accompanying John on his journey and found the book very informative and enticing ( I couldn't put it down! ) John's story shows how it's not only possible, but also easier than you might think to escape the rat race and get off that UK treadmill. I don't want to give too much away, so if you're looking for a way out, and you're not loaded, then this is the book for you. Who knows, it might just change your life ;-)
