Astra is a 10 year old Alphan girl, the youngest of sextuplets born to Moma Bara, the elected Supreme Leader of the Alphas. Despite difficulties posed by the opposition, and antagonistic elements within the High Council, Moma Bara governs Alpha wisely, with the aid of the Prime Intelligence, who is a wonderful combination of animal and machine. Alpha is shadowed by a powerful and corrupt planet: Megalatta. The king of Megalatta, Megalon, invades Alpha Centari Bb to steal the Alpha's food, Bagaloo. This magical dish can change into any food you desire, and the evil leader is eager to get his hands on it. When his plan is thwarted by Astra, it sparks a feud that will span the galaxy. During a fierce battle Megalon is killed, and Astra is assassinated soon after, however both survive these attacks, using rejuvenation processes. Many years later they meet again on Earth, with dramatic consequences...

After graduating in medicine at Southampton Emma worked in research for a few years before doing her registration year and then specialising in psychiatry. She also has a qualification in Psychodynamic counselling. Combined with over twenty years of medical experience this has provided her with a good insight into human nature.

Her lifelong interest in Fantasy was stimulated further by meeting various patients who were confused over what was fantasy and what was real in their lives. Dreams are important as they are a gateway into the unconscious mind.

A thoroughly enjoyable read with lots of twists and turns. Some very interesting and imaginative ideas. Astra a young girl almost single handedly defeats the corrupt megallatans who are trying to steal the Alphan magic food. The ideas involved with both combatants being born again to resume battle on Earth is also very interesting. Looking forward to Emma Mai Sowter's next contribution to the world of scfi and dreams, or should I say nightmares.
