I am a grandmother in my eighties. I shouldn’t be here at all. I was born illegitimate in 1926. I died on the operating table when I was fourty-two. I was a guinea pig when I had a massive heart attack which gave me another lease of life, so why am I still here? After nine operations, and cancer, you need to read my story to know why I wrote my autobiography – it’s not only for the benefit of my family, but also for all the youngsters who want the latest designs in shoes – me, I had no shoes at all until I was fourteen and started work.
I have compensated for my life, by saving at least nine people’s lives, most with great danger to myself.
I still feel that I am here for a reason, perhaps my book will give hope to everyone and help them to be satisfied with what they have.
Life is wonderful for everyone to enjoy. Love and help each other, it makes you feel real good.
Charity Information
Above & Beyond Charities is the working name for the charitable trusts for University Hospitals Bristol NHS
Foundation Trust.
The charity funds projects which touch the lives of the thousands of people cared for by University Hospitals
Bristol and its local community services each year.
The charity aims to:
- Enhance the patient and staff environment
- Further medical knowledge through research
- Fund state of the art equipment
- Support staff development and training
Last year the charity gave over £2.2 million in grants to make a real difference to healthcare in Bristol and the South
West.
Examples of our work include raising funds for the new soon to be opened Bristol Heart Institute, providing retinal
imaging systems for premature babies to prevent blindness in later life and introducing pull down beds for the
Children’s Hospital to enable parents to stay overnight.
