Austin Macauley, founded in 2006 and based in London and New York, is a forward-thinking, independent publisher which provides authors an opportunity for success in a highly competitive marketplace. We have just opened our office on Wall Street, New York City, signifying our ever-increasing international success, and at the end of 2017 we will be opening our next office in Melbourne, Australia.
At a time when publishers and literary agents are closing their doors to both up-and-coming and previously published authors, our objective has always been to accept unsolicited manuscripts from all writers, aiding in the daunting and nerve-wracking task of submitting their work to publishers. With this mindset, we aim to make our submission process friendly and efficient, casting our network as widely as possible in search of great books. To learn more about our submission guidelines, follow this link.
From the very beginning, Austin Macauley have operated using the hybrid publishing model which has become increasingly popular throughout the industry in recent years. This method of publishing means that, should a manuscript pass the review stage, we can look to offer one of two types of contracts: a traditional, non-contributory publishing contract or a partnership agreement, where the author may be asked to cover a portion of the cost of publishing their book. Only once our editors have reviewed the complete manuscript thoroughly and passed it for publication, we can decide which avenue would be most suitable for that manuscript.
When a writer is accepted as an Austin Macauley author, they can expect the highest level of care with turning their manuscript into a beautifully published book. With our large team of typesetters, designers, illustrators, proofreaders and editors, an author can be confident that we have the expertise to enhance their book’s full potential – whether it is a collection of poetry, an adventurous young adult novel, religious literature, a colorful children’s story, or a scholarly thesis.
In addition to paperback and hardback, we release our publications in a variety of eBook formats. This makes it possible for an author’s work to be read on the Amazon Kindle, the iPad and many other devices. We also produce audiobooks for several of our titles.
Thanks to our enviable international network of contacts, we can ensure that our titles reach the widest possible audience. We have recently joined forces with international distributors such as Ingram and Bookmasters. These partnerships guarantee that readers have a satisfying experience of finding, ordering and receiving an Austin Macauley book anywhere in the world.
We are also a part of the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) family, which is a not-for-profit organisation, and is the largest publishing trade association within the US. We are incredibly proud of this partnership, and believe it serves as reassurance of our commitment to our authors and their success.
To further our reach, our ever-expanding Marketing Department follows both traditional and modern forms of publicity, ranging from tried and tested techniques such as press releases, AIs, reading groups, signings and events, print advertisements, reviews and interviews, to modern practices such as online digital marketing. At Austin Macauley, we understand that every title is different and will require a tailored marketing plan specifically for each book. Implementing effective marketing strategies appropriate for a book’s genre ensures that it captures the attention of decision makers within the trade.
We are confident that our promotion and marketing strategies are effective as can be shown through coverage received for our authors’ titles. Recently we’ve worked with the following reputable organisations: The Huffington Post, The Daily Mail and New Magazine, as well as TV programs such as CBS, not to mention the many independent and local media outlets that are in our portfolio.
With social media playing such an enormous part in people’s daily lives, influencing their buying decisions, Austin Macauley have accordingly expanded their Marketing Department to now include a Digital Marketing Team. Our fully trained digital marketing professionals devise ways in which digital aspects can be included in our authors’ marketing plans, by researching the latest market trends, relevant blogs on our digital platforms, guest posts on other well-known blogs, and online blog tours. Other promotional methods which prove to be effective include book trailers, targeted social media posts on sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube as well as our investment in Amazon promotions and Kindle advertising.
In addition to our various marketing strategies, we also attend many of the world’s major trade book fairs. These include the London and Frankfurt Book Fairs and Book Expo America. Having a strong presence at these events, we aim to find new and upcoming writers, meet with our existing authors, and attend networking events and talks. We schedule meetings with other industry professionals including literary agents who are pitching their lists or who are interested in purchasing subsidiary rights, journalists, distributors, book buyers and printers.
Austin Macauley are committed to producing high-quality titles to compete within a highly competitive marketplace. If you are interested in being a part of a fast-growing, forward-thinking international publisher, then we would love to hear from you!
