5 Last Minute Book Awards to Enter in 2015

As February draws to a close, shortlists for literary awards are being announced left right and centre. If you've left it to the last minute again this year, don't despair! You're still in with the chance of nabbing yourself a prize. Here are five awards still open for entries:   Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction 2015   The Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction is awarded annually for the best full novel of the year written by a woman and published in the UK. Any woman writing in English - whatever her nationality, country of residence, age or subject matter - is eligible. The entry form can be found here, entries close 31st March.   BBC Young Writers Award   This award is open to U.K writers aged between 14 to 18. Short stories of up to 1,000 words on any topic may be submitted. The judges are looking for writers who demonstrate originality, imagination and creativity. You can enter here, but hurry! The deadline for entries ends on 25th February.   Kelpies Prize   If you're a children's or YA writer based in Scotland, the Kelpies Prize is for you. Set up in 2004 to encourage and reward new Scottish writing for children, winners will receive a £2,000 cash prize. Submission guidelines and an application form can be found here. The closing date for entries is 28th February.   East Midlands Book Award   Every year £1000 is awarded to a writer of Fiction, Creative Non-Fiction, Poetry or Plays. To be elegible for the award, you must reside in Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, or Rutland. You'll have to ask your publisher to submit your entry - further information can be found here.   Gordon Burn Prize   The Prize is a partnership between the Gordon Burn Trust, New Writing North and Faber & Faber. The winning writer will receive a cheque for £5,000 and be offered the opportunity to undertake a writing retreat of up to three months at Gordon Burn’s cottage in Berwickshire in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland.
