Sepulchre is set simultaneously in the distant past and present day, but also explores the potential of humanity's future. 1. What was your inspiration for writing ‘Sepulchre’?
It was the only rational way to deal with a developing mid-life crisis.
 
2. Did publishing your first book change your process of writing?
Very much so…It taught me a lot about pace, momentum and character development.
 
3. Did any authors inspire you? If so, who?
I’ve always enjoyed Stephen King but most recently Andy Weir’s 'The Martian' has kept me enthralled for weeks!
 
4. What’s your favourite novel and why?
Tough…It’s like trying to choose a favourite film, it all depends on your mood.
 
5. What kind of research did you do for ‘Sepulchre’, and how long did you spend researching before writing it?
Research… Yeah I probably should have done some of that. In truth, the story wrote itself and I simply looked stuff up as the need arose.
 
6. What does literary success look like to you?
Success...? Beyond the untold riches and large houses you mean? I suppose having people enjoy reading the story as much as I enjoyed writing it… Yeah that sounds magnanimous and cool. Almost ‘Authory’.
 
7. How did you select the names of your characters?
The contemporary characters just sort of manifested themselves, I had very little input as to what they were called… The Ancient characters have an undeniable Old Testament sort of vibe and that’s no accident.
 
8. What’s the best way to market your book, and what advice would you give to new authors?
The best way to market my book is to spread the word. Nothing complex in that I know, but 20 years in Marketing has taught me to keep things simple where you can… As for advice? Not sure I’m qualified, but I’d say stick with it and don’t get hung up on following a script… A good story will almost write itself if you let it.
 
9. Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym?
Why? I worked bloody hard… why give the credit to somebody else!?
 
10. Can we expect to see a second book soon?
I'm already halfway through it and I’ve surprised myself with some of the plot developments. Get ready for 'Echoes of Eden – Azrael'. Duh, duh, daaaaa!
