" SHE HAD WINGS" is a sensitive and well written series of short stories that explore teenage life in contemporary London. The use of magic realism allows the stories to be far more than a predictable urban documentary. A teenage reader would take comfort from these affirming tales that avoid cliche' and stereotype. As someone who was bullied at school these stories took me back to a dark place that I hope can be forever banished from our education system. Books like this help us to understand and confront the continuing physical and mental abuse of the young. 'SHE HAD WINGS" offers a lifeline to the bullied and marginalised young and a reminder to adults that they too can be a guardian angel to the most vulnerable.
