The author is a mother, experienced midwife and antenatal teacher. She has prepared many mothers for childbirth and has delivered many, many babies. She has translated her knowledge and experience into a simple language for the benefit of all. No one is blinded by science; basic information and advice is presented in an easy-to-read and easy manner with nothing alarming, and little that is not clearly expressed. Some difficult issues and questions commonly asked by women prior to and during pregnancy that often go unanswered are discussed. Her book, 'Preparing for Pregnancy, Birth and Motherhood' is compiled as a comprehensive health educational reference so that every woman and her partner can avail themselves of relevant information and advice before, during and after pregnancy.
Amongst the plethora of childcare books available there is none which puts so much emphasis on childbirth, making this book a first of its kind.
For anyone who is pregnant, particularly for the first time- this is an invaluable step by step guide to these important nine months and afterward. Its strength lies in its simplicity and no-nonsense prose. No one is blinded by science! This book is an invaluable source of common sense and information for the mother-to-be.
“Preparing for Pregnancy, Birth and Motherhood“ is written in a lucid, authoritative and conversational style. Ms. Murphy successfully brings her maternal, midwifery and teaching experience to bear on this well written, informative book.
I would thoroughly recommend it to expectant mothers and their partners. Student midwives and medical students might also benefit from reading it before beginning their practical midwifery and obstetrical training.

“Preparing for Pregnancy, Birth and Motherhood “ The Health Promotion Unit recognizes the valuable addition which this book makes to resource materials on childbirth. It is very comprehensive, covering all of the issues likely to arise in the course of pregnancy and childbirth.
The inclusion of several easy to understand diagrams also helps make the book very “User-friendly”.
I see “Preparing for Pregnancy Birth and Motherhood” as an invaluable asset to Family doctors and all doctors in the obstetric field. I feel this book will make our jobs a lot easier.
The self-help approach is certainly a new concept in ante-natal education and one which sets this book apart from others on the subject.
