Nicola Davison Featured Isabel Donnollan, the Author of ‘When We Were Very Rich’

Nicola Davison, who blogs on Forever Young Autobiographies Website, interviewed Isabel Donnollan about her book. The article also shared that Australian Historical Society had taken a copy of ‘When We Were Very Rich’ as a record of Australian social history.

‘When We Were Rich’ is an account of Sarah, the mother of author Isabel, she came from a large family surrounded with the richness of love and kindness. Sarah was first born among the fourteen live births her mother had, without any attention or supervised by any doctors. Sarah's grandparents were shipped off as convicts to Australia from England and made a life there after getting their freedom. Albert and Sarah married in 1918 and forged a life through Depression in the late 1920s.

Australian born author, Isabel Winnifred Donnollan is the eldest of Albert and Sarah Hall's 14 children. Isabel started teaching at 19, she married at 23 and raised four children. Isabel was elected the First Woman Alderman to Rockhampton City Council and fought for the rights of female educators.
