Penelope Hillam is a prize- and award-winning artist, designer and educator. She grew up in the temperate rainforest of the Dandenong Ranges.
Her love of nature is reflected in The Fernakins. As fantasy/realism, it allows children to research the forest, leaving the engaging question, “Do the Fernakins actually exist?”
Her desire to share with children her connection to the earth and rekindle all that nature provides. It aims to bring hope through nature’s changing cycles of renewal.
Nature and the forest inspired a lifetime of creative enterprise, and may this book also inspire all who read or hear the story.
