At nine years old, my dad gave me his 1940s ‘Box Brownie’ camera to use. I used the camera to take a variety of black and white photos on 120 roll film.
A friend of mine explained how I could develop my own photos. So, at 13 years old, I developed my first film in our coal cellar in a small flat in Streatham, South London.
To see the images appear in the developing tray under a red ‘safe light’ was so exciting that I became passionate about photography and have since taken photos throughout my life.
I have had an incredibly varied and interesting life—‘incredibly rich’ indeed. The book tells of the many adventures I have experienced, including winning a National Ilford Photography competition, appearing in various films and dramas, and appearing with Russell Grant in a musical. I worked in a gold mine with a motley group of Cornish tin miners in Wales, where we obtained Lady Diana’s gold for her wedding ring. I discovered the first portable Ice Age art and many other unique situations, all accompanied by some great photos in the book.
