Dr Pat Howden
A polymath of extraordinary breadth, Dr Pat Howden held titles including DSc, PhD, BSc, Fellow of BIS, Honorary Fellow of Inventors Association A, and memberships with IEEE, MSSANZ, and ANZSES. His professional journey spanned roles as ecologist, medical researcher, scientist, electro-mechanical engineer, value engineer, physicist, mathematician, and sea captain. He also served as President of LYRA Corp.
Remarkably, he retired in 1973 at the age of 37—not wealthy, but thriving through a philosophy he called Frugaluxury, living in one of the most self-sufficient homes in the country on just 5% of his pension. Over his lifetime, he amassed more than 5,364 inventions and discoveries—placing him among the top third of inventors globally.
He authored multiple books and e-books, sharing his insights and innovations. He passed away in 2022, leaving behind a legacy of ingenuity, resilience, and visionary thinking.
