Terence Kearey

Terence Kearey started Longfield Infant School when he was five, at the same time war was declared in 1940. He played in the playground with David Villers. They stayed together for all their school days, through Headstone Secondary School at twelve, and both left when they were sixteen.

Since the age of twelve, they had both joined The Boys’ Brigade. David Villers spent a couple of years at Acton College studying English before going up north to become a sports reporter.

Terence became an apprentice Lithographic Artist attending the Boult Court School of Printing, Fleet Street, after spending a three-month trial period at Chromoworks, Willesden. When he turned seventeen, he and Colin Reuter joined the Royal Marine Forces Volunteer Reserve (RMFVR) for a period of nine years.

Terence carried on until he was eighteen to start his National Service at Lympstone Devon for a year’s Infantry Training. He then took up his option to join Sea Service in HMS Illustrious, an Aircraft Carrier. After a year, he left when the ship was scrapped because it had a serious leak.

Terence then joined the Amphibious Wing on Infantry Landing Craft. He left once again to join the RM Beach Control Unit for the remainder of his two years of NS. He returned to Chromoworks to finish his apprenticeship after a final year. He was now twenty-one and became engaged to Sally Morgan. They got married two years later. His adult life and family life began two years later when their first child, Simon, was born whilst they lived at 9 Love Lane, Pinner. They later moved to 68 Norwood Drive, North Harrow.
