Lucy McDowell was born and grew up in Northern Ireland. After graduating with a degree in French from Queen’s University Belfast, she entered the teaching profession. She taught in schools in France, Germany and Morocco and eventually became the principal of a language school in Cambridge. Lucy returned to Northern Ireland where she managed the family-run business which manufactured and supplied popcorn to supermarkets and cinemas. Now retired, she and her husband live in Cambridgeshire, close to their sons and grandsons.
