Michael Rawlings comes from and lives in hill-farming country, where the daily motions and activities of the region, along with the periodic cycles of the woods, hills, hedges and water courses play a significant role in his life. The streams, rivers and water-meadows, rich in grasses and wild flowers make for good walking, while the changing trees combined with the comings and goings of birds, moths, butterflies further add to the dynamic landscape. On top of this the accidental and unexpected meetings and sightings of wild animals make for a pleasurable diversion, happy memories and even high hopes for future forays out of doors.
