John Sellens – an electronics and mechanical engineer, an international businessman and an avid fisherman!
John began his career in 1961 at EMI Electronics at Hayes, Middlesex, England. He started off in design and trials for military radar systems, with the UK Military and Defence at home and over 100 territories globally. He went on to become the manager of International Sales and Marketing for Asia and the Pacific region, later managing Thorn EMI Electronics' Corporate activities in Riyadh, residing in Saudi Arabia for several years.
His travels and experiences at many levels in sales and general management enabled him to be an expert in the logistics and business activities of many countries, including the Middle and Far East, South America, Africa, India and to a lesser extent, Central Europe and the CIS. These activities were primarily related to defence and military organisations.
After senior positions in the defence industry, John’s career moved into Fire and Security Systems as MD of UTC Fire Safety Middle East, based in Dubai, responsible for group business in the Middle East, Central Europe, North Africa, Central Asia, Russia and the CIS. He led a successful and motivated international team, some dedicated fishermen amongst them.
His global contacts at all levels are extensive, and he has lived in the Middle East for several years.
John, now retired, lives with his wife in the UK. He has three daughters, thirteen grandchildren and an expanding number of great-grandchildren. Currently, the count is fourteen.
