Book Description

What do war and persecution, spanning four continents, inflict upon five generations of a single family?

One of the most renowned Dutch writers of the last century, Gerard Reve, once said: ‘You recognise reality by its improbability.’

Rooted in the author’s own reality yet crafted as a novel, 100 Years of Family is a narrative within a narrative, exploring the improbable fates of great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, children, and grandchildren, whose stories unfold then, later, and even now.

Sivan Behr is a journalist and a writer. She has already published books before: in 2018, an interview book about brave women in the resistance in the Second World War (Palet van verzet/moedige vrouwen toen en nu). This work was the basis of a big exhibition that has been exposed at eight venues in the Netherlands. She also wrote in 2022 a chronicle about the situation of old people in nursing homes (Crisis in het verzorgingshuis). Sivan Behr is a mother of two and she lives currently in Amsterdam. 100 Years of Family is Sivan's first novel being published in English.
