In 4 Paws, author Carolyn Gray offers a series of short children's stories about dogs and the families they live with. Each story is followed by a set of exercises which the child can complete either with or without a teacher or parent. These charming short stories show dogs investigating the world around them; for example - how a dog realises that its bad temper can alienate it from people and other dogs and how when it becomes 'nice', the world becomes a better place to live in. Dogs on the beach, dogs in the snow, dogs at the zoo, dogs in the fog - each story allowing the child itself to investigate the world and check its understanding against questions.4 Paws will be a fun read for children learning about phonics in their early years at school.

Carolyn taught in primary schools for many years and when she retired from full-time teaching, she found she missed it so much that she went back to part-time teaching. She had the idea for writing these stories whilst lying on a sun lounger on holiday. Carolyn lives in Stamford with her husband Peter.

What a well written and beautifully illustrated book, I bought this for my 4 year old granddaughter for Christmas and we are enjoying all the stories as she loves dogs and enjoys the antics that they get up to and the situations they find themselves in. She loves me reading to her and it’s a joy to carry on the learning with the questions I can ask her as each story has a parents or teacher guide. I would recommend this lovely book to all my friends. Looking forward to more books from this very talented lady.
