With fascinating descriptions of nasty feeding habits, bizarre mating rituals and shocking defence mechanisms, you will marvel at both the splendour and gruesomeness of nature.

Meet the lizard that shoots blood from its eyes, the isopod that replaces the tongues of fish, the bug that stacks the corpses of ants on its back and the amphibian that looks like a penis.

Come and discover the world’s most peculiar species!

Caleb Compton is an author and biosciences graduate from Redruth, Cornwall. Specialising in animal biology in his final year, he completed his degree in 2016 from the University of Exeter. His passion for animals and conservation started whilst watching nature documentaries with his family, presented by the great Sir David Attenborough. In 2013, he created a Twitter account, which brings obscure and bizarre creatures into the spotlight. Starting with just a handful of followers, it has now grown into one of the most popular animal accounts on Twitter.

I've been following the Strange Animals Twitter for some time now, so when I found out that they were releasing a book. I had to get myself a copy! Didn't disappoint, just like the Twitter it had loads of pictures and random facts on lots of different animals. It was great to see more a more in-depth look at the animals featured on their Twitter account. Fantastic job!

This book celebrates the joy of biodiversity and the wonders of Nature. It’s a wild jaunt through the beautiful & the bizarre, and a perfect eye-opening Guide to life for perhaps the strangest known species of them all – Homo sapiens.

I had a good browse through this before I gave it to my grandson. A great book, a great achievement for the author. It covers a vast range, and contains an incredible amount of information. It’s well presented and easy to read. Just a joy to pick up.

As a game designer, when concepting monsters for @AQ3Dgame and our other games, there's no better place to turn for inspiration the weirdness all around us in the real world! Thanks, @StrangeAnimaIs and @AustinMacauley for the new inspiration and desk reference!

I bought this for my daughter's 7th birthday. She loves animals and has been really excited looking at all the strange creatures in here. It makes a change from the usual animal books that she has shown lots of different creatures we'd never heard of before. There's lots of information about the animals too. The adults in the household have very much been enjoying it as well. Very educational and just shows how amazing nature and evolution are. Highly recommended.
