Set in Liverpool, in 1940, this book tells the story of Freddie, a 12-year-old boy with a taste for adventure, who becomes caught up in exciting events after he is bombed out of his house. The Germans plan a commando raid to gather intelligence about troop movements and other vital information for the High Command to assist in their invasion of Great Britain. The raid involves a U-boat, the local Home Guard and even the battleship Prince of Wales. With courage and a disregard for his own safety, Freddie is found in the thick of the action and even brings his friend Grace into danger. Based on actual events, A Boy’s War is an enthralling story which not only paints a grim picture of how ordinary people lived during the war, but also depicts the fortitude of individuals doing their bit for the war effort, sometimes paying the ultimate price. It will appeal to readers interested in the Home Front during WW2 and all those who like an exciting yarn.
