You are five, having lived at home with your mum all your life. Now things are changing; you are going to school for the first time, but not with your mum, as she has to go to work early each morning. Instead, you are going with your grandparents.

You are full of excitement but a bit nervous about what this means for you. Are you prepared for what lies ahead?

Amelia not only has to tackle going to school for the first time, but the discovery when arriving at Nana and Grandpa’s house each day that Grandpa never seems to be there, except on Fridays.

Where does he go?

What does he do?

Amelia tries to discover Grandpa’s secret. Is he a secret agent, a spy or…???

Born in Paisley, Renfrewshire, in 1958, Alan grew up in various places in the UK as he travelled around the country due to his father’s work.

Alan originally studied chemistry and then later computer science. Working in financial services for many years allowed him to travel a lot which, along with his granddaughter Amelia, provided the inspiration to write this book.

Knowing his friend Tony’s artistic abilities from his youth, Alan decided to enlist his help in illustrating the book with humorous drawings to accompany the narrative.
