Book Description

Laboratory tests are an integral part of the clinical decision-making process, providing irreplaceable information for the diagnosis and diagnostic-therapeutic monitoring of diseases. The term ‘clinical laboratory science’ encompasses various specialities, such as clinical chemistry, haematology, immunology, microbiology, serology, and urinalysis.

This book will focus on the most important speciality, clinical chemistry, which involves a wide range of analyses and is a fundamental area of hospital and laboratory activity. It combines basic chemistry knowledge with biochemistry, computer science, technical expertise, and other disciplines.

This book is intended to meet the basic learning needs of laboratory technicians who are new to the field of clinical laboratory medicine. Anyone involved in clinical chemistry or working in clinical laboratories will find this guide relevant.

Typical readers of this book include medical laboratory technicians and medical technicians, laboratory supervisors and managers, nurses, laboratory support staff, and medical office laboratory staff.

Konstantinos Triantafyllou graduated from the University of Messina, Italy (Università Degli Studi di Messina) with a degree in Industrial Chemistry (Laurea in Chimica Industriale). From October 1995 to March 1996, he conducted research for his dissertation at the Stazione Sperimentale per le Industrie delle Essenze e dei Derivati dagli Agrumi (Experimental Station for the Industry of Essential Oils and Citrus Derivatives). He currently works in a hematology laboratory as a Clinical Chemist, adhering to the rules of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
