Book Description

The Bristow Kid – Undaunted is the inspiring story of a woman’s journey through life. Born into the unimaginable world of World War II, she navigates the adversity of wartime childhood and overcomes the challenges of abuse to build a life of fulfillment.

This is the story of a woman who defied societal expectations, successfully breaking into the male-dominated world of finance and challenging traditional norms of the 1950s, 60s, and beyond. It is a testament to resilience, courage, and determination, offering inspiration to others through its reflections on a life well-lived.

A tale of love, loss, and triumph, this book captures the extraordinary experiences of a woman who refused to be defined by the constraints of her time.

Joan Lucas turned 85 years old in 2023 and following the loss of her husband, in the same year, decided that she wanted to share her life’s journey, with the aim to inspire other women. Born into what would be a family of seven, in the dark wartime years, Joan had many challenges as a child but despite these and with help of other women she became one of the first women to have a career in finance and live as an independent woman in the late 1950s, she went on to have further career success, fall in love with her soul mate, become a mother and travel the world. A story of a strong, resilient woman.

Insights into the life of a courageous woman raised during world War 2. Receiving abuse and witnessing insecurity and subordination of many women in both domestic and professional capacities until the 1970,s. An independent, educated young woman with dedication, hard work and spirit, entered , became successful and respected in the male dominated world of banking. Marriage, raising 2 children supporting her husband and relatives provided further challenges. Dealing with her own cancer, mental illnesses of family members and their wellbeing all of which was unconditionally undertaken. Joan attained and fully deserved the pinnacle position of her career when she became a mobile consultant for a major financial firm. Along her life journey she helped and inspired women with humility.. A thought provoking read.
