Dee is an ordinary girl with three extraordinary stories to tell. This is the story of The Big C.

Dee was a normal, healthy kid growing up. That was until something happened that meant her life was suddenly turned upside down. At the age of 12, Dee was diagnosed with the frightening ‘C’ word that everybody knew – Cancer. Dee’s experiences of receiving the bad news, having treatment and surviving this dreaded disease are shared in this story.

Diksha Shah is a primary school teacher in London and first-time author of Dee’s Stories; a collection of stories based on some of her challenging experiences and encounters as a child. With a passion for educating children and sharing her stories, Diksha offers a personal insight into some sensitive issues which often affect children all over the world.

The first in the series by my sister Diksha! We’ve all been affected by cancer in some way, shape, or form, most likely because someone we know has been affected by it. What Diksha has done is turn her own childhood experience into a story about resilience, that kids can learn from and ultimately make those difficult conversations that much easier to have. Made for age 7 and up, but it’s never too early to start. Definitely recommend for any littles you know or maybe the parents of yourselves!

This is an emotional story in the series of Dee’s Stories. It explains what Dee went through at such a young age from her own perspective. This will help children to understand Cancer as it affects so many people around the world. I am sure it will touch the lives of many. The questions for discussion and follow-up activities are also a great way to engage the readers!

This was an emotional story to read but yet felt incredibly uplifting. A personal experience brought to life by wonderful illustrations and heart-warming moments. A great story to share with children to help them understand the experience of someone going through cancer treatment. Activities at the end are great to help embed the learning.
