Raised in an orphanage, nineteen year old Lincoln French sets out to explore the galaxy and finds himself on the same flight as Collette, two years younger and completely entrancing. From that moment nothing and no one will stop them from being together for the rest of their lives, not even an unexpected war, which threatens the fragile peace of the galaxy. Lincoln and Collette are separated as he joins a citizen army to defend the Interplanetary Union against the aggression of the Imperium and this is his story; about love and bravery, friendship and loyalty, how character and reputation are forged in the furnace of war, and the triumph of honour and decency, courage and compassion in a time of adversity. It's about remembering who you are and what you stand for... and the people who believed in you along the way.

Andrew Covarr, a retired modern languages teacher, was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa but is currently resident in the United Kingdom. He is married to Claire and has one daughter, Rowena. He likes folk/country music, bird watching and going on family holidays to the Mediterranean.

This is possibly my favourite sci-fi novel of all time. Definitely worth a read.
