Harry (actually the Honourable Harry) of Hobberdy Hall joins forces with his teddy bear friend, Hiccup. Harry decides they will play a game of hide-and-seek, which has hilarious results.

This is a book for ‘grown-ups’ to share with their children. Featuring traditionally illustrated teddy bears and introducing a wide, alphabet-based vocabulary.

On every picture page, there is something to find beginning with the letter ‘H’.

Mark Perkins was born in 1951 and has lived in Dorset for most of his life. He completed a graphic design course at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design, with diplomas in graphic design, and then qualified as a teacher in Yorkshire with the University of Leeds.

Working life began with a Bournemouth advertising agency/art studio. Shortly after joining, he became creative director and remained with the company for 20 years. Whilst at the art studio, he was elected to be a member of the Chartered Society of Designers. He then pursued a career teaching art to secondary age students.

In 1998, he with his wife, Avril, began breeding pedigree Burmilla cats.

They became his models for an illustrated A–Z children’s book of cats.

Subsequently, and with a growing family of grandchildren, he began to find he was accumulating teddy bears (as grandparents do). These became the subject of AlphaBetaBears, an A–Z of teddy bears, which led on to his writing individual stories about the 26 teddy bears from that book.

A delightful book with oh such sweet illustrations all about the Honourable Harry of Hobberdy Hall, it goes without saying Harry And Hiccup (a fellow teddy bear) Play Hide-And-Seek is way up there as one of my favourite reads of 2021 ... and not just for the little ones either, this is definitely a story for anyone who has ever loved a teddy bear.

The first in a planned series of 26 books featuring the letters 'A' to 'Z' by way of teddy bears each of them named after a letter of the alphabet {the author acknowledges that he 'should have begun with 'A' but he is nothing but impulsive and Harry had grabbed his attention'}. Harry and Hiccup is not just a charming read that makes for great bedtime/story circle reading but, with something {often several things} on each page beginning with {in this incidence} the letter 'H', its also written in such a way as to make learning the alphabet fun.

Harry And Hiccup Play Hide And Seek by Papa Perkins is a perfectly delightful book for the under-fives.
Harry is part of the AlphaBetaBears series and this book focuses on the letter ‘H’. Each page has an object to be found that starts with the letter ‘h’, and also the story contains many words beginning with ‘h’. This is a really fun book that will help our children grasp the concept of the alphabet.
The book is beautifully illustrated by the author. The illustrations will appeal to young children.
Towards the end, we are introduced to Ivan and his ice cream van who will star in the subsequent book.
At the end of the book, we meet all the AlphaBetaBears. You can look through all twenty-six bears with your children picking out your favourites. Mines were Manuel and Victoria.
This is a beautiful book that will delight children everywhere.
I received a free copy from the publishers. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.
