Herbert, a tiny but brave spider, wants to help his friends. But he is always told that he is much too small to do anything important. Dejected, he rests under a tree until he hears a frightful scream of pain. Is there actually someone who might need his help?

The author was born towards the end of the Second World War. On April 1st 1946she was adopted by her birth mother's Health Visitor who shared a flat in Ilford with a colleague who had adopted a baby girl the year before.
In 1963, after spending nine years with her sister at a boarding school in Wiltshire followed by two years at college, Angela joined the WRAF. It was during her five years in the service that she developed a liking for creative writing. As a result of a short story she wrote for her English Language GCE an examiner visited RAF Stanmore to talk to her about it. Unfortunately she was away representing the WRAF at a sporting event so missed what might have been the start of a literary career.
Filling in time between careers she worked in a chewing gum factory, and as a PDSA ambulance driver before joining the Metropolitan Police Force in 1968.
After two years on foot duty Angela became one of the first two female officers to join the Metropolitan Police Mounted Branch, patrolling central London and being involved in ceremonial occasions. In 1971 she married a fellow Police Officer.
Angela has two daughters and two granddaughters and lives in Cambridgeshire.
