Father and Mother Christmas have received mountains of Christmas letters from children all over the world. Some of the wish lists are too long and some wishes are simply ridiculous. How will Father and Mother Christmas decide on the perfect present for each child?

The author was born in Duesseldorf, Germany, in 1958. Gabi qualified as a medical doctor in 1985 at Duesseldorf University. She went to London to work at the Hammersmith Hospital where she met her future husband, Charles, who is also a paediatrician. After her marriage to Charles in 1987, Gabi moved to the UK and started work in the Paediatric Liver Transplant Unit at Addenbrookes University Hospital in Cambridge. Gabi retired in 2018 after 30 years of service at Addenbrookes. Gabi and Charles have four adopted children; Philip, Aaron, Molly and Aleshia. The family lives in rural Suffolk with springador dog, Tess.

The illustrator graduated from Falmouth Art College in 1998 and since then worked as a freelance artist and participated in national exhibitions. Katharine lives in Suffolk with her husband, their two daughters and a cocker spaniel.

This is an intriguing and rewarding book to read with your children or grandchildren. Depending on their age, they have to suspend their disbelief of Father Christmas and can then think about the relationship of children with this mythical figure and his wife and with their own families. There are a lot of matters that can be discussed including the morality of Father Christmas ‘borrowing’ a poorly looked after dog and a neglected goldfish and appropriately re-distributing these to more deserving children! Highly recommended.
