Mothers: for nine months we are one, yet they remain a part of us, not apart from us, forever.

Told through the eyes of her daughter, Nani, Imaginary Order is the story of a mother’s psychological struggle to regain her life after a near fatal-accident. Their journey together, first to Switzerland, then Italy through to Amsterdam morphs into a redeeming story of self-discovery, independence, and the inevitable severing of the eternal child who hides within us all.

Shifra Steinberg was born in 1997 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Shifra derives most of her inspiration from her somewhat nomadic life, which moulded her into the introspective woman she is today. In Imaginary Order, she explores the tight webs of familial relationships as well as addiction, dependence, adolescence and the fine line between childlike innocence, and the unforgiving world which strips us bare.

I admit I picked this one up because the title interested me. I’m not disappointed!
