Jack wakes up to discover that he is a rabbit.

How will his family react?

But, more importantly, how will Jack be changed by this amazing experience?

Ian Sugarman was a primary school teacher before he began to specialise in maths. He believed that teaching maths should not only be challenging but also fun, and devised lots of practical games and puzzle activities that became popular in his home county of Shropshire and beyond. Some of these activities later became incorporated into NumberGym, a software package for schools.

More recently, he has become a volunteer reader in a local primary school, as well as a grandparent. He likes the idea that stories can open up alternative worlds to their readers.

'Jack's Magic Pyjamas' is a charming, quirky story, written by an author who knows how children think. My 7 year old granddaughter was intrigued; it made her think about what she eats, what it would be like to be a bunny, what her parents would do if she disappeared, and whether Jack would ever tell his secret. Her older brother thought about his relationship with his sister, and wondered where you could buy a pair of magic pyjamas because he'd like to get some and change into a dinosaur! This book is beautifully illustrated and I can thoroughly recommend it for children aged 4 to 8.

From the opening sentence this is brilliant. “Of course, no one knew that Jack had transformed into a rabbit”. How can you resist that? Hard to resist the magical explanation and Ian’s quirky humour. The story brims with quiet excitement. Does Jack know that he's become a rabbit? How has he become a rabbit? What kind of things do rabbits like? Most of all though, Ian captures a marvellous sense of family warmth as Jack becomes a boy again. Absolutely first rate. I loved it. If you are looking for a story to share with children or grandchildren, or more widely with a group of children in a school, nursery, or library, this is a perfect choice. I’m certain they will love it too.
