Joe and his little sister Molly come from a very poor but happy family.Their lives change suddenly when their father announces he has won 1st prize in a raffle. It’s a family trip to the enchanting islands of the Seychelles, staying on a luxury sailing ship!Whilst Joe and Molly are sitting together on the deck looking up at the stars, Joe smells smoke. He turns around to see huge flames. The beautiful sailing ship is on fire!Joe and Molly jump into a little wooden boat perched on the side of the sailing ship and Joe rows frantically away from the blaze towards the safety of the other islands and now their adventure begins! They discover little islands where they swim underwater amongst a kaleidoscope of fish, look up in wonder at beautiful birds, sample the delights of exotic fruit, meet local fishermen and walk alongside giant tortoises. They feel they’re in paradise! What is going to happen to Joe and Molly? Will they be reunited with their parents?

Mary Bessenich was born in Swansea in 1955. Much of her childhood was spent as a chorister in the local church where she trained to become an organist. In 1972 she attained her Grade 8.

Mary spent many years living in Hamburg and Dubai and speaks fluent German. She loves travelling and the Venice Carnival is her favourite trip each year! She regularly visits Morocco, Rome, Austria and Portugal. However the trip to the Seychelles left such an indelible impression upon her all those years ago that she was inspired to write about it.

Mary actually had the privilege of meeting Brendan Grimshaw on his private island of Moyenne and enjoyed a cup of tea with him!

She is the proud mother to Anna and grandmother to Oliver.
