Louisa is 15 and living a contented, happy life in London. The Second World War is threatening their peace of mind. Will they all have the strength to survive?

Jacqueline Carpenter is from Essex and is married with a grown-up son and daughter. These days she spends a lot of her time in Spain, where she adores the weather, the delicious healthy food and gorgeous people.

Her favourite pastimes are walking along the beach, chatting and dancing (badly!).

Wow, what a great story, takes you through highs and lows of war time and shows how even in darkest times friends community and loved ones pull together .
Made me laugh cry and everything in between.
Can’t wait to read what comes next.

You are a wonderful enthralling author, thank you. The story of Louisa was historically captivating and loved every word you wrote. A wonderful book and it took me from my world to Louisa’s. Looking forward to the next chapter of Louisa, her family and friends.

What a lovely family. Louisa takes you back in time when families helped each other and shared. I felt very emotional when my home town of Clydebank was mentioned, the Clydebank blitz decimated Clydebank and not a lot of people know that. Well done Jacqueline. Look forward to the next one.

Read it in a day! Absolutely loved it and was so reminiscent of stories I’ve heard from dad and grandparents about life in London during the war. I could really imagine being there. Beautifully written and can’t wait for Jacqueline Carpenter’s next book!

Louisa by Jacqueline Carpenter is a comprehensive historical tale that covers the World War II period. It is mainly set in London with a short foray to Kent.
This is a work of fiction that seamlessly blends with facts to cover key dates and happenings.
Londoners are a stoic breed, even after nightly raids, they just keep calm and carry on.
It is the women who keep the home fires burning. They step into the roles vacated by men. Pockets of friendships form as women help and support each other.
The bulldog spirit is very much alive as we witness the grit and determination to carry on.
All the characters were well-drawn and realistic.
Among the tragedies life still happens. As well as death and destruction, we see marriages and new life.
I thoroughly enjoyed Louisa and admired the strength of the characters to keep on keeping on.
I received a free copy from the publishers. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.
