People have been exploring mindfulness practices for thousands of years, whether by itself or as part of a larger tradition. The story of Mindful Moby provides the opportunity for children to connect with a character as a way of accessing a mindfulness practice detached from screens and the overwhelming stimulus of their busy little worlds. Join Moby and his dad on a journey throughout the body as they explore the traditional mindfulness practice of a body scan in this fun and engaging story that is both charming and purposeful.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR After completing a Bachelor of Education and Early Childhood in 2007, Cathryn has worked extensively with children in the education system for over 10 years. She has held many roles including Classroom Teacher and Learning and Support Teacher, primarily working with students with behavioural and academic challenges. Cathryn's passion for supporting these students led her to her work with The Bluearth Foundation - a non-profit organisation that works in schools to facilitate movement and mindfulness amongst students and teachers. Her knowledge of movement and mindfulness extends beyond just her work in schools, as she has also been a professional athlete as well as an accredited yoga instructor. Cathryn's love of writing and poetry began at an early age and was inspired by her grandmother, Ivy May Brown. ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR Ryan Sutherland is a freelance artist working both locally and internationally. He is self-taught and works with many mediums: from traditional pencils, inks, acrylics and more recently with digital tools. Ryan loves inspiring young people to draw and explore their creativity. He shares his passion for art with young people through his work with local youth groups and various school groups. Throughout the story of Mindful Moby, Ryan thoughtfully transitions from erratic reds and oranges to calming blues and greens to reflect the change in disposition of the characters. The artistic collaboration of Cathryn and Ryan seamlessly bring life to this story that is charming yet purposeful.
