Book Description

Geoffrey Ring’s latest book delves further into his personal journey of faith. He explores the relevance of the Church, religion and the existence of God. If you have ever wondered about these, or just don’t believe, then this book is for you.

It is certainly a unique perspective from someone who isn’t ordained, has had no formal theological training, does not profess to be an ecclesiastical expert but, as the title suggests, is just an ordinary bloke. A bloke who has found comfort and solace at some of the most trying times in his life by turning to his faith.

More Musings on Faith by an Ordinary Bloke is the story of a journey that he didn’t always realise he was on but one that, in the end, showed him how he could survive difficult times. It’s a book that is suitable for all ages, for those trying to make sense of that RI lesson, have found traditional help inadequate, or are just trying to understand what folk see in all this faith stuff.

It wont give you all the answers. It’s all about an invitation to share the journey to try and find them.

Geoffrey was born in East London in 1948 and grew up with his parents and two brothers in Winchmore Hill. He attended St Pauls C of E Primary School and, having failed his 11+, moved on to Winchmore Secondary Modern School. Here he studied for his O and A Level GCEs before taking up a place at City University to read Civil Engineering. A career with Consulting Engineers, Contractors but primarily Local Government served him well and, now retired, he lives with his wife in Buckinghamshire.

More Musings on Faith by an Ordinary Bloke by Geoffrey Ring is one of those rare books that quietly reaches into your heart without trying too hard. It’s not flashy, it’s not filled with deep theological theories—it’s real, raw, and relatable. Geoffrey isn’t a preacher or an expert, and that’s exactly what makes this book so powerful. He’s just an “ordinary bloke” who’s been through life, experienced deep pain, quiet joy, and found himself turning to faith in the moments that mattered most. Reading this book felt like having an honest conversation with someone who gets it. There’s no judgment, no preaching—just thoughtful reflections on life, the Church, belief, and how faith can show up in the smallest, most unexpected places. His stories are deeply personal, and yet so many of them made me stop and think, “I’ve felt that too.” Chapters like “The Listening Ear”, “Peter Wot…No Vicar?”, and “Changing Times” hit home. Geoffrey doesn’t shy away from the difficult stuff—grief, doubt, change, death. But instead of offering packaged answers, he offers presence. In pieces like “I Weep” and “Hard Lessons”, you feel the weight of his experiences, but also the hope that comes from simply continuing to walk the journey. There’s something deeply moving about how he finds strength in small things. Whether reflecting on scripture or just urging us to “Slow Down” and “Love One Another”, this book invites you to take a breath, think deeper, and maybe even reconnect with something you’ve been missing. It’s not a book of answers—it’s a companion in the questions. And sometimes, that’s exactly what we need most. Whether you’re devout, doubtful, or just curious, Geoffrey’s humble, honest voice will speak to you in ways that surprise you. This book reminded me that faith doesn’t have to be loud to be real. Sometimes, it whispers—and that’s where the magic is. Happy reading
