The 14th Century.

A Pagan Child, an orphan.

A Danish Baron,

Do you defy your king?

Do you defy the Holy Father in Avignon?

Do you throw caution to the wind and defy the Teutonic Knights and their Grand Master?

For love, for family honour, for a small child, do you risk everything?

Now it begins!

Warwick Halse-Hill is one of eight children born in the Historical Gold mining town of Charters Towers Queensland Australia. Eldest son, but forth child, Warwick spent his childhood traversing Australia many times. He defines himself as an adventurous spirit, who believes in the Old World, the Old Faiths, in particular Fjorn Sid or the Old Path. He combines a love of history, nature, re-enactment, and his personal beliefs to deliver story telling in a unique way, very reminiscent of the Skalds of old.

When a mate dedicates his novel to you, I guess I had to read it. I will admit a little bias in my review of his novel “Pagan Child” Christmas 2025 along with my wife, and my two children I went on a Scandinavian/Finland/Estonia adventure. Warwick had repeatedly warned us of the cold, -20 degrees was a shock. But the trip gave me time to read Pagan Child. Firstly, I must tell you, this may in fact only be the second adult novel I have ever read cover to cover. By the time we reached Tallin in Estonia, I was roughly half way through, and was enjoying it so much I took it everywhere with me. I even convinced the tour guide in Tallin to buy a copy on the internet. Friday 2nd of January, while we were in Tallin, I took several photos with the book at landmarks and sent them to Warwick. It’s a great read, the characters became real, the story became real. In fact, I suspect I discovered tiny hidden traits of Warwick himself in the book. And I am not telling anyone. One of my sisters is into HMB Full Contact medieval Combat in the Adult Women’s Class, Warwick’s book gave me an insight into her hobby, maybe I will go to a Medieval Festival soon, maybe I can get Warwick to show me around!!!
