Book Description

“Listen with your ears, but also your eyes. Communication is all around you, in ways that might surprise.”Patty and Friends playfully promotes conversations about communication differences and emphasizes inclusivity. This charming story highlights the diverse ways we share our messages and celebrates the unique forms of communication in our world. As new mothers, authors Brittany and Rebecca hope Patty’s story helps raise children’s awareness of all communication styles from an early age. By introducing young readers to the beauty of varied communication methods, they aim to foster understanding and acceptance in the next generation.

Rebecca and Brittany began their friendship in 2011 as they studied a Bachelor of Speech Pathology at the University of Queensland. Now with over 14 years of clinical experience between them, both Rebecca and Brittany specialise in Paediatric communication difficulties. While working with a diverse community of children and families, both developed a strong passion for helping children communicate using speech or alternative forms of communication and spreading awareness about the challenges those with communication differences face. As new mothers, Brittany and Rebecca hope Patty’s story helps raise children’s awareness of all styles of communication from an early age and leads to a new generation of inclusivity. Beyond their field of work, Rebecca and Brittany share interests in raising their border collies and enjoying Queensland beaches. They have also enjoyed travel together, with their biggest adventure being a road trip from Porto to Lisbon in Portugal.

What a beautiful message within the book to celebrate communication difference for children. The illustrations are on another level and my child loved finding the caterpillar on each page. Would love to hear if more are being planned that focus on each of the characters and their individual differences.

Beautiful book - celebrating and raising awareness of communication differences and inclusion. Also love that there’s a hidden little caterpillar on each page!
