The author is an 80+ year old grandfather with six grandchildren. His 'family name' is Pom Pom. This came from the first attempt of the eldest grandchild to say 'Grandpa', and has stuck ever since. The youngest grandchild, Ruby, lives 300 miles or so from Pom Pom and Grannie. Because they do not see her all that frequently, one day Pom Pom thought it would be a good idea to send her a home-made card just as a way of keeping in touch. This was 'The Story of Ollie the Owl'. Ruby loved it and thought it great fun-—as did her friends. So Pom Pom sent eleven more cards over a period of time, They all told stories about a variety of countryside animals who each have their special challenges, but manage to solve them in the end. Each has Pom Pom's painting of the animal and a poem to accompany the painting.

Ruby hopes other children like them as much as she did.

Richard is an 80+ year old grandfather. He was born in 1939, and educated at Leeds Grammar School and Exeter College, Oxford where he gained an MA in Classics. His career was with Procter & Gamble, in the UK and for a short time the US. He was on the UK Board as Marketing Services Director. He is married to Carolyn, and has two children and six grandchildren. He lives in Newcastle upon Tyne, and this is his first book.

I absolutely love this book!! The poems of Pom Pom tell wonderful stories of challenges overcome in simply adorable and humorous ways. This is a perfect book for children to read or to have read to them even from a very young age. The artwork is so beautifully done too. This book will make the perfect gift for any child- one they will treasure. Everyone should have Poems by Pom Pom in their collection!

Just read this warm and charming set of poems on countryside animals for children. Would make an excellent gift for any child, and also a great addition to school libraries and therapy tool kits.

Poems By Pom Pom is amazing!

The book is about animals facing small but funny challenges, and the stories are told as poems, accompanied by beautiful illustrations.

The poems are cleverly written- lots of rhymes and a good amount of syllables, making them pleasant and interesting for the reader. They're also arranged neatly into paragraphs, and that made it easy to read.

Lots of children will enjoy this book, I'm sure of it! I'd say it's also a good read aloud and many will love the pictures.

So shall I sum it all up now? It's funny and enjoyable. Anyhow, you should read it, try it have a go because you'll like it- I'm sure, you know!

Ha ha, I loved it so much I had a go at poetry myself.

This is an enchanting little book. It transports the reader into a make believe animal world. The stories are as interesting and as much fun whether you are the parent or the child. The author clearly has a great sense of humour and is a good artist. I hope there will be more to come

I give this book 5 stars.
