Unworldly teenager Gemma was beginning her working life in a busy London office, with high hopes of following family tradition by establishing a career in the Civil Service. She had no idea a chance meeting a few days later would mean her chosen path heading way off course, sending her whole future in an entirely unplanned direction. No idea of the roller coaster she was embarking on, held for life by a soul-deep bond which could not be broken. She should have heeded the first warning, thus avoiding the emotional turmoil that lay in wait. Dave. Could she – should she – trust him?

Faced with life changing situations and decisions, Gemma had the love and support of others to help her. Yet time after time, when she should have taken the opportunities to extricate herself from the all-consuming relationship, she would ultimately press the ‘self-destruct’ button, sending her spiralling back towards the man who possessed her.

Dave.

There was no escape… was there?

The author was born in Isleworth, Middlesex, spending her formative years in Hounslow.

After leaving secondary education, she worked in a clerical capacity, first in London and latterly in Kent. She later left paid employment and became fulltime carer to her parents. In 1991, the family moved to North Tyneside, and it is the location the author has been pleased to call home ever since.

This book draws on characters and situations encountered by the author during her time in London—a time she regards with affection, apart from the oft-gruelling weekday commute from Kent!

This book is a well constructed tale of the trials and difficulties of a secret love. It is all the more impressive as it seems to be the first offering from this author, and like all good works of fiction, it has an unexpected ending. I look forward to more!

What a wonderful read, enjoyed this book so much.
Can’t wait to read another Janet Stevens.
A love story I think parts of which we can all relate to.
    Wasn’t expecting the ending!

Stolen Love by Janet Stevens was a compelling read and I couldn’t put the book down.

So brilliantly written I could almost ‘see’ the characters and recognised working conditions from that time - so it also brought back memories for me.

I loved the ‘twist’ at the end - put the book down with a sigh, then wanted to read it again!

Would highly recommend the book to anyone looking to ‘get away’ from the present for a while and be entertained by someone else’s fascinating story.

A real page turner for a debut novel. A new author to look out for.
