Disconcerted by her boyfriend’s hasty marriage proposal, London-born Sarah cycles from Cape Town to the Karoo in search of her heritage, and her heart.

On the way, disaster strikes leaving her lost and confused in an arid landscape. Rescued by a handsome sheep farmer, she has just a locket; a phrase: “touch the stars” and a faded map, to navigate her way forward.

As for Luan, one minute he is warm and friendly, the next haunted by pain and so distant.

What has hurt him so deeply? What will it take to melt the ice around his heart? Can Luan help Sarah find what she is looking for?

If it’s outdoors, Jo-Anne Duffett’s there: gardening, hiking, running, photography, or kayaking. If it’s raining, there’s always a stationary bike with a book, or a raincoat and trainers. Planning her next adventure with her husband is as delightful as exploring and travelling. The transition from academic writing to fiction has been immense fun and she hopes her readers relish this story as much as she enjoyed the creation. Jo-Anne lives in Cape Town with her husband and a tank full of tropical fish.

Not usually a romance reader, I really enjoyed this first novel by Jo-Anne Duffet. It was a fast-paced, light read taking you on a romantic whirlwind through the dusty Karoo, Stellenbosch and the beautiful Cape. I felt like she captured the essence of these places and people bringing them to life with her descriptions of the foods, places and adventures that are so uniquely South African. She created strong, believable characters who I couldn't help but root for everything to work out for them.

A great debut novel! A romance that is authentic. I loved learning about the local foods as well.
