London 1842 - Unwilling to be shackled by his orphan tag and the Mile End Poorhouse, 10-year-old Alfie London is desperate to break out and explore the world by way of a naval career. Following a chance encounter, Alfie meets the well-to-do Alexandria Scott. Together with their stray Jack Russel, Rocket, they fearlessly stowaway into the unknown in search of adventure. And adventure is what they soon find! The kind that will test their mettle to the limits and take them on a magical journey to save their imprisoned shipmates. Tackling puzzles, villains, and mythical creatures at every turn, they must find a way to ensure that the history of the world as we know it comes to pass! Where their only hope is finding the long-lost Scrolls of Shangri-La and, in turn, the enchanting and miraculous kingdom itself!

Hamish McTavish lives with his partner, Karen, in the remote West Highlands of Scotland, far from the madding crowd. Hamish admits he is just a big kid at heart who hasn’t the slightest inclination for growing up. His debut novel is written for his two grandsons to encourage them to read, seek adventure, believe in the impossible and follow their dreams!

When not writing, Hamish can be found out on the Lochs fly fishing with Karen and grandsons; Che and Eli.

This book is an absolute must read. Hamish Mctavish is a brilliant writer who captures your imagination and keeps you reading to find out what's next. Alfie is a fantastic character and you really get attached to him as you read. Some of the story lines are so good you can actually imagine it today. If you are looking for a book that keeps you hooked all the way through then this is it.

Wow... that's the only way to describe this!!! I've been lost for a while without a certain Harry Potter and now we have Alfie London. Alfie London totally eclipses anything in the Harry Potter series and I need the second book - Curse of the Caribbean.... when is it out?????

This book was simply outstanding! One of those rare, hard to put down novels that grip you from the first page. I love the relationships' the author builds between the characters and the dialogue makes you feel like you're hearing it rather than reading it.
The story literally has everything - mystery, adventure, puzzles, humour, a who dunnit - all set between 1842 London & Ancient China.
For those who like to fully immerse in a book and be transported away, this is the book for you.
Perfect for fans of all ages and especially those who loved Harry Potter!
