“You disgust me!” his mother muttered and stormed out of the room. Terrible arguments raged in the Johnson household. Charley’s parents were determined he should become a doctor, but Charley wouldn’t have any of it. Born with optimism and dogged determination, Charley Johnson was very much his own person about to embark on his very own journey through life. A journey with twists and turns, trials and tribulations, and many challenges to navigate en route. Charley’s natural acumen for business brings new and lasting relationships. But as we find out, not all of these are just about work.

Bruce Kennard-Simpson was born in Torquay in 1929. Throughout most of WW2, Bruce attended school in Somerset and afterwards spent two years’ National Service in the Royal Air Force, a period of his life he thoroughly enjoyed.

Bruce inherited his mother’s creativity and passion for music and as well as composing for the piano, he has written several novels, children’s stories and pieces of poetry. ‘The Birth And Birth Of Charley Johnson’ is the first of these works to be published.

In 1972, after a successful business career, he purchased and renovated a run-down hotel in East Devon and ran this as a family business for 20 years prior to his retirement.

Bruce lives in Otterton, East Devon with his wife June and spends his time writing and composing music.
