Book Description

Santa rang the Christmas bell, and all the elves stopped and stared. What was Santa’s big announcement?

“Who will go into the woods and collect from each animal a Christmas gift for Ruby, the new baby reindeer?”

None of the elves wanted to leave the warmth and coziness of Santa’s workshop... except one.

“I’ll go!” exclaimed Elliot.

Elliot must overcome his fear of dark caves, heights, and small, tight places, but he is determined to collect a gift from each animal and meet Santa at the Reindeer Barn by noon with the gifts.

Elliot consults his map. His first stop is Brutus the Bear’s cave. Elliot despises dark caves, but he knows Santa is counting on him. To Elliot’s dismay, Brutus refuses to part with his sweet honey. Surely, Roxie the Rabbit, Sammy the Squirrel, and Rosie the Raccoon will be charitable… but what if they’re not? What will Elliot do? After all, Santa is counting on him, and Elliot’s persistence will not allow him to disappoint Santa.

This heartwarming story will take you on an unforgettable Christmas adventure and remind you that the true spirit of Christmas dwells in a generous heart.

Sophie Sparrow Wants to Be a Flamingo is Andrea Hyatt’s third children’s book. Inspiration came from the cheerful but noisy birds that chirp outside her bedroom window, making her wonder, ‘What are they tweeting about this early in the morning?’ Perhaps they are chirping about her previous books, Juliette’s Web and Santa’s Nice List. When Andrea isn’t writing heartwarming stories, she teaches first graders and enjoys baking sweet treats with her curious cat, Ivy. Although she loves anything chocolate, she has yet to try Juliette’s chocolate beetle soufflé or Sophie Sparrow’s chocolate-covered worms with rainbow sprinkles – sounds interesting!

I bought this heartwarming book for my niece, and I can’t wait to read it to her. She is going to feel like she, too, is on this magical Christmas adventure with Elliot. There are so many charming scenes…Santa’s Workshop, the Reindeer barn, and all the different animal homes decorated for Christmas. I love the little twist at the end, and the message of having a giving heart. The main characters, Elliot and Matilda, are such sweet characters that you just can’t help but fall in love with them.
