Pam is an excellent writer and the tale of Amarylis August is a gripping one. Normally read a book in a week or so, but this kept me enthralled and I forsook other things I needed to do to finish it in a day .

This book kept my attention throughout. It has an intriguing plot and was obviously well researched as it paid attention to details of the period.
I learnt from it, particularly about life in a mental institution before many were closed down. The main characters were well described and the complexities of relationships explored
The book is well written and deserves a wide readership.
