Everyone in Melbay Village and beyond knows about Bid the healer and her magic bottle – a small, blue, glass bottle, which holds Bid’s special cure.

But Bid is old and needs to pass on her knowledge. Who will she choose to carry on her healing work – Widow Hannah and her daughter Ellie, or their troublesome neighbour, Lizzy?

There is just one condition for whoever takes over from Bid – never take money for cures.

Lizzy believes she should be the one to continue Bid’s work and will stop at nothing to get hold of the Magic Bottle …

Mai O’Shea was born in the seaside village of Ardmore, Co. Waterford. She was educated in Ardmore and later Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, where she currently resides. From an early age, she had keen interest in writing and has written a number of children’s stories as well as adult plays. In addition to writing down her stories, she has told and re-told them to two generations of children, a practice that has considerably enriched her craft in terms of pacing and a finely tuned ear for dialogue. She is an avid reader and loves to review and discuss books, newspaper articles and political events.
