If you've ever wondered what stories James Herriot would have told if he'd been an environmental health officer and not a vet, then wonder no more because this is the book he'd have written.Having been disillusioned by his second career choice and abandoning it after only one year, Brian saw something in the local evening newspaper that would change his life forever. He also saw a job advert for a student environmental health officer and successfully applied for it.In this debut book, Brian lifts the lid, drops it and then lifts it again on aspects of the job the reality television series 'A Life of Grime' didn't.

Brian Utting was born in Manchester in 1956. He now lives in Hampshire with his wife, Beverly, and their two cats. He has two daughters, Victoria and Laura, and a granddaughter, Carys.

This unique writer has managed to both surprise and enlighten me, in the most fascinating way, as to the amazingly diverse W orld of Environmental Health!

He uses some hilarious tales to share the memoirs and adventures of his career, with an unrivalled, satirical skill that allows all number of emotions to bounce through the chapters.

It is one of those captivating, ‘Can’t put it down’ books that just keeps giving and has the next enticing chapter laying in wait, impossible to resist.

I think every trainee EHO in the country should read this as part of their training!

I don't get much time to read but this book was recommended to me by a friend and I found it hard to put down, always wanting to read one more encounter!
Written with a fabulous dry wit, I found myself laughing aloud at his comments and observations of the shocking situations, environments and people he was sent to investigate.
The book is permanent resident of my coffee table.
Each chapter is written in a fast paced, concise manner, with hilarious puns and similes.
