Zara is originally a Kurd from Syria. He came to the UK at the beginning of the Syrian uprising and he couldn’t speak any English. His writing experience started in Kurdish and Arabic. His interests in writing began when he was 10 years old. He wrote a short story in school that impressed the whole school. However, the catalyst in his life was his grandma who always told him plenty of stories about Kurdish culture and mythology.

Despite choosing a career as a pharmacist, he continued to develop his passion for writing and this book will be his first published story.

My 7-year-old son loved this book! He kept telling me about the drawings and loved the ending, no spoilers!!

I bought this book for my 8-year-old sister and she loved reading it. She kept talking about it and showing me the pictures. The illustrations in this book are very unique, definitely recommend!

I enjoyed this book thoroughly from start to finish, I think all characters have an exciting purpose and it’s a very heartwarming story with a great ending, perfect for reading to any child in your life.

What really drew me to this book, was the unique storytelling and plot. It’s about two children who want to do well in school and go to scary lengths to achieve that! The best part for me was, when the creatures from Smithtopia worked with Ben and Jeen to free people from the jail they were put in. It’s still kid-friendly but also has some big words that you may want to explain to them.

Overall, it’s a must-read if you want a real light heart book or want your child to have an adventurous time and explore Smithtopia.

  • The book was really good and I really enjoyed reading it, but just one small thing I think that the pictures should be on the same page as the writing.
