Book Description

Charlie had always been an adventurous boy with an extraordinary imagination, but his life takes a thrilling turn when he discovers a mysterious pocket watch. This watch, adorned with curious symbols and driven by a gem of immense power, leads Charlie into a hidden world of time travel and adventure.

One day, while helping Mum at work, Charlie discovers an old pocket watch, seemingly broken beyond repair. But this watch has a history, and, before long, Charlie finds himself in a race against time to decipher a prophecy that dates back to King Tutankhamun and rescue a mysterious prisoner.

Helped along the way by his friends in Team EJECT, Charlie travels to different eras: Ancient Egypt, the Wild West, the Ice Age, and even the future - where he must use his wits and bravery to survive.

The Time Travelling Timepiece is a captivating journey filled with historical wonders, clever puzzles, and the excitement of discovering the importance of time through the eyes of a brave young adventurer.

Originally from Oxford, England, Steve Cartlidge emigrated in 2005 and now lives in Adelaide, Australia. He has three children, the youngest of whom, Charlie, is the inspiration for this book. Steve is also a doting grandfather to two amazing little boys and a dog parent to Frankie, his miniature dachshund. He has spent almost four decades in the insurance industry, holds an MBA and various other qualifications, none of which prepared him for life as a children’s author.

Such a fantastic read! The way the story started really grabbed my attention and pulled me into Charlie’s world of time travel and intrigue. The mystery around the disappearance of his father and why his mother’s strange rule that banned all time pieces in the house made me want to keep reading, there were answers that needed to be found. The mystery element was handled superbly and I truly felt that I was discovering everything as Charlie did. I am a fan of fiction that involves history, so this story didn’t disappoint. The author tells the story through a series of historical events and he has clearly researched each time period covered to set the scene perfectly for the intended audience. As you can tell, I loved it. The ending left me wanting to dive straight into the sequel, did Charlie and his dad ever get home? Had time stood still for Charlie’s dad? What happened to his friends and how did they explain it all to Mum? Come on Mr Cartlidge, time waits for no man, a sequel is needed. Highly recommended!
