This is the second story in the Matt Devlin crime series.

Two men from the same company are killed at the same time, in the same manner, but at opposite ends of the town. Detective Inspector Matt Devlin leads the investigation with the assistance of Detective Sergeant Fiona Marshall as his usual partner, Rick Preston, is ill.

Matt’s relationship with his girlfriend, Esme Harvey, has progressed gently until, to their dismay, she comes under suspicion of direct involvement in the case, with evidence mounting against her. Matt is determined to remain on the case despite, or perhaps more truthfully because of, his connection with Esme. Meanwhile DS Marshall has her own private demons to deal with which have entered the case.

Matt will need to use all his powers of detection to solve the mystery, as well as exercise his patience to try to repair his relationship with Esme since he knows how important she is to him.
